White-Label LMS in India: What to Check Before You Buy
A branded app is not always your app. A practical checklist for judging what 'white-label' really includes.
In this article
A white-label LMS lets you sell courses under your own brand instead of the platform's. The phrase sounds precise, but vendors use it for anything from a logo swap to a fully separate app in the app stores. Here is a checklist for finding out what a platform actually gives you.
1. Your own domain
Students should reach your school at your address, not a subdomain of the platform. Check whether a custom domain is included in the plan you are looking at. Some platforms include it from the entry plan; on Synappses a custom domain starts on the Basic plan.
2. Whose name is on the page?
Many platforms keep a "Powered by" line until a higher tier. Learnyst, for example, removes its branding from its Premium plan, and Thinkific removes its branding from Grow. If invisibility matters to you, find the plan where the branding disappears and price that plan, not the cheapest one.
3. The mobile app: whose developer account?
This is the question that matters most and is asked least. A branded app can be published under your developer account, which you own and can move, or under the platform's account, which you do not control. Learnyst's pricing page states that its branded apps are published under Learnyst's developer account. Ask every vendor the same thing before you sign, and ask which stores are covered.
- Which stores: Android only, or Android and iOS?
- Is the app in the plan, or an add-on? Thinkific lists its branded app at $199 a month on top of the plan.
- Who owns the store listing, and what happens to it if you leave?
- How long do updates and store reviews take?

4. Content protection
Course videos get copied and shared. Look for DRM, not just a download toggle. Platforms list different levels, and vendors describe them differently. Our guide to DRM levels for course creators explains what the labels mean and what to ask.
5. Getting your data out
- Can you export students, emails and purchase history?
- Can you take your videos with you, or only re-upload them?
- Is migration help offered, and is it included or charged?
6. Support when something breaks
A launch day outage costs more than a month's fee. Find out the support hours and whether you get a named person. On Synappses the paid plans include 24x7 support with a dedicated CRM person; the Free plan has email support.
7. How you are billed
Check the currency, whether a GST invoice is issued, and how much of each sale the platform keeps. Our fee comparison shows what the main platforms list and what they cost in rupees.
Frequently asked questions
- What does white-label LMS mean?
- It means the platform lets you present courses under your own brand: your name, logo and domain, and in some cases your own mobile app, instead of the vendor's.
- Is a branded app the same as having my own app?
- Not always. Check whether the app is published under your developer account or the platform's, because that decides who controls the store listing.
